"I supported this report which looked in detail at the situation of fundamental rights in the European Union in the period 2010-11. These reports provide a valuable opportunity to review performance across the European Union in ensuring that fundamental rights are upheld and promoted. I know that these are issues of particular concern to my constituents in Wales. In the week we learned that the number of Welsh speakers has fallen over the past decade, I particularly welcome that the report "calls on Member States to take action to combat discrimination suffered by members of linguistic minorities" This year, the report also highlighted particular fundamental rights violations affecting migrants, national minorities and the LGBT community. The European Commission needs to take stronger, co-ordinated action in dealing with fundamental rights violations, including those faced by linguistic minorities."@en1
