"The single market is the one area that even British Eurosceptics admit brings value-added. 70% of European trade is in services, and services remain subject to barriers to trade. The prime ministers of the UK and eleven other Member States called in March for a solemn effort to complete the single market - in particular, the digital single market. Liberalising digital services would increase European GDP by 4%, according to a report last year by Copenhagen Economics. It is not difficult to imagine the benefits that would accrue to citizens and consumers alike if the continent was an online market place which consumers could trust by virtue of it ensuring transparency and internet governance, cyber-security and protection from fraud, rogue traders and identity theft, and the protection of consumer rights. But, to bring these services to the citizen, business must have a legal framework in which intellectual property can be deployed cross-border to create a digitalized market which fosters innovation. It is only through innovation that real growth – and thus real jobs – can endure."@en1
