"The next important date for Parliament will be the European elections in 2014. In accordance with the Treaty of Lisbon, the Commission President should be elected from the political group which wins a majority in the European Parliament elections. This new arrangement will help to strengthen Parliament’s democratic basis and, above all, the legitimacy of the Commission, which is routinely accused of being out of touch with the situation on the ground and excessively technocratic. It was therefore important, 18 months from this great event, for Parliament to clarify its position and its expectations as regards this election, which should be held either from 15 to 18 May or from 22 to 25 May 2014."@en1
