"Today we voted in favour of the resolution on elections to Parliament in 2014, since we feel that it is important to set the date for those elections. On the other hand, we do not share the view that European political parties should nominate candidates for the position of Commission President and that these candidates should take a leading role in the parliamentary election campaign. Nor do we share the view that Member States should propose two candidates, a man and a woman, for each Commissioner post or that as many members as possible of the next Commission be drawn from among the MEPs. The election of Commissioners must be based on the priorities of each Member State and on striving for the best possible candidate."@en1
