"Small-scale coastal fishing and artisanal fishing are vital to the dynamism of Europe’s fishing sector and it is imperative that they and their specific characteristics are taken into account by the future common fisheries policy. I welcome the prominence given to women in the report, as they, too, play an important role within the fishing sector. As in other sectors, we must foster the training of women and support them and strengthen their role throughout all stages of the chain of operations. The value of their work must be recognised, and that must be reflected in their status and remuneration and the protection of their rights."@en1
