"Mr President, thank you, I would firstly like to join those who have welcomed the ceasefire. We hope that this will be a long-term agreement, and a push to renew negotiations on long-term peace and a final agreement on the two states in this region. In my opinion, the resolution’s text is balanced.
It deplores the high number of civilian casualties and condemns the attacks against Israel and its civilian population by
and other militias. Israel has the right to defend itself. Any aggression deliberately directed at the civilian population is unacceptable. I voted against paragraph 5, which supports Palestine’s aim to become an observer state of the United Nations. I definitely support Palestinian statehood but unilateral steps and obtaining recognition indirectly does not lead anywhere. An agreement needs to be reached with the neighbour.
Secondly, I do not believe that we want a state that is partly governed by a terrorist organisation and that does not recognise its neighbour’s right to statehood. I hope that political forces will appear which will be able to ensure peace in the region."@en1
