"I am firmly in favour of the extraction of shale gas and believe that it is unnecessary, and possibly even detrimental, to regulate in this area. To do so may restrict gas extraction, which would be counter to the economic interests of many EU Member States. I find paragraph 34 especially worrying in this respect. The large-scale extraction of shale gas and shale oil will help diversify energy sources in the European Union. Shale gas extraction is economical and environmentally sound. My concerns about the regulation of shale gas extraction as proposed in the report have led me to abstain from the vote."@en1
