"When it comes to the issue of shale gas, there are a lot of questions today, but very few answers. That is why I voted in favour of an approach that calls for maximum caution in light of the risks involved in hydraulic fracturing and its negative effects on the climate, the environment and health. I do not believe that it is the right time yet for the Member States to authorise hydraulic fracturing in the European Union. Moreover, the ‘polluter pays’ principle should undoubtedly be applied in order to prevent any industry players from shirking their responsibilities in the case of an accident."@en1
