"I welcome this resolution. The second generation Schengen Information System will ensure a greater degree of security for the Schengen Area, for data protection and fundamental personal freedoms and will also reinforce legal certainty. Attention should be drawn to the fact that migration to SIS II is a complex process. In order to ensure a smooth transition and to avoid any gaps in the supervision in practical terms it is important that all the authorities with responsibilities are closely involved in the entire migration phase. Furthermore, we should ensure that Member States do not incur further unnecessary expenses. Particular attention must also be paid to setting up a mechanism for protecting EU citizens and third country nationals. In order to prevent a delay to the transition to SIS II, I believe that it is appropriate to set a final date for the termination of the migration and for the expiry of the Regulation."@en1
