The extreme devastation suffered by certain areas in northern Italy cannot therefore fail to invite our solidarity and motivate our action. The European Union must intervene in situations of this magnitude, and seek to reduce their impact on those affected. The mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) is therefore a logical consequence to this readiness – which we must all demonstrate – to remain united in adversity. I hope that the assistance provided by mobilising the EUSF can truly help to alleviate some of the suffering of those most affected by the earthquakes."@en1
