"As we say colloquially in English, two wrongs do not make a right.
It is also of concern that methane is lost in the pipelines from Russia, but as we start this new process of extracting shale gas in some countries, we need to get the environmental legislation right and clearly it is the case that methane does escape. It has been a cause of pollution locally.
What has not been taken into account yet is how much that worsens the greenhouse gas effect when we exploit shale gas, and it is precisely because I do not know – nobody knows – at the moment exactly how much that we need the research from the Joint Research Council to look into this and to give us some figures we can rely on."@en1
