lpv:translated text	"Since the signature of the Treaty of Rome, the European Union has made significant steps forward as regards political, economic, fiscal and monetary integration. In a globalised information society, the need for closer European integration built on the basis of democratic legitimacy, accountability, transparency and citizens’ endorsement is becoming ever more clear. In the light of recent events, the euro area lacks the means to solve the economic crisis we are in. There is still an urgent need for building a true economic union where the Europe 2020 strategy should give the binding framework for defining and implementing economic policies. For the reasons that I have briefly outlined, the need for further amendments to the Treaty cannot be ruled out, in order to increase the democratic legitimacy of a fully operative EMU. In the light of what I have briefly explained, I voted in favour of the proposal."@en1
