"− The European Commission published a Green Paper on an integrated European market for card, internet and mobile payments which identified several barriers preventing the European payments market from working normally in an efficient, open and integrated manner. I am voting in favour of this report as I believe that there are a number of advantages linked to the creation of an integrated payments market, which means a Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) needs to be set up that establishes common rules for the various Member States. Lastly, I would emphasise that a market with more convenient, secure, fast and effective payments could generate direct and indirect benefits estimated at EUR 300 billion over the next 6 years."@en1
