".
I voted in favour of this proposal, since it aims to establish harmonised rules on the manufacture of agricultural or forestry vehicles (tractors, trailers and towed equipment). It significantly simplifies the legislation by replacing the 24 base Directives with a single Regulation that carries over the requirements laid down in the existing legislation without reducing the current level of protection. This report encourages the introduction of new technologies such as ABS (anti-lock braking), which is now available and could make vehicles considerably safer. Studies have shown that, if these technologies were to become the norm for new vehicles, considerable progress would be made. The definition of common binding rules would also avoid the fragmentation of the internal market caused by the existence of different standards in the Member States. Even though these vehicles are in the minority in Europe, they must not be forgotten by European legislation, since they can be very dangerous."@en1
