". By letter of 13 January 2012, the President informed the Committee on Constitutional Affairs of a decision taken by the Bureau to limit the translation of verbatim reports of proceedings as part of the commitments made by Parliament in the budget 2012. According to the current Rule 181 translation of verbatim reports into all official languages is to be provided. At the same time and in accordance with Rule 182, an audiovisual record of the proceedings with interpretation into all official languages shall be made available to the public on the internet immediately after the sitting. Moreover, the proceedings are streamed in real time. Members may also ask for extracts from the verbatim report to be translated at short notice. After the adoption of the package of saving measures for the budget 2012, Parliament put into effect its budgetary commitments and started with translation of CRE into English only from July 2011. This situation is in contradiction with the current Rule 181 and Rule 146 and could put into question the principle of multilingualism. I therefore consider it justified to draw up CRE solely as a multilingual document in which all contributions appear only in their original language without any translation being automatically provided. Drawing up verbatim reports solely in their original language will result in greater budget and resource savings and at the same time uphold the principle of multilingualism."@en1
