"Stanimir Ilchev has tabled a report on amendment of Rule 181 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure concerning verbatim reports of proceedings and Rule 182 concerning the audiovisual record of proceedings. Notwithstanding the fact that Rule 146(1) provides that ‘all documents of Parliament shall be drawn up in the official languages’, in January 2012, the President informed the Committee on Constitutional Affairs of a decision taken by the Bureau to limit the translation of verbatim reports of proceedings as part of the commitments made by Parliament in the budget 2012 and mirroring the efforts made by the Member States in terms of curbing spending. I agree with the rapporteur when he states that ‘providing translation of verbatim reports into one language only would create a hierarchy among the official languages of the European Union and thus call into question the principle of multilingualism’. I am in favour of more efficient use of new technologies that could enable multilingual streaming, and that is why I voted in favour of the report."@en1
