". − I voted in favour of the amendment to Directive 93/109/EC on the right to vote and stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament for citizens of the Union residing in a Member State of which they are not nationals. The right of all citizens of the Union to vote and stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament in their Member State of residence is recognised under Article 20 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. The Member State of residence may check whether the citizens of the Union who have expressed a desire to exercise their right to stand as candidates there have not been deprived of that right in their Member State of origin through an individual judicial decision or an administrative decision, provided that the latter can be subject to judicial remedies. To facilitate communication between national authorities, the Member States should designate a contact point responsible for communicating information concerning candidates. The Directive requires that when submitting applications, Union nationals must produce an attestation from the competent administrative authorities of their home Member State certifying that they have not been deprived of the right to stand as candidates in that Member State or that no such disqualification is known to the authorities."@en1
