".
The conclusion of bilateral fisheries agreements with third countries, known as ‘Fisheries Partnership Agreements’, is a key element of the external dimension of the common fisheries policy. Acting beyond the mere buying of fishing rights for EU vessels, these agreements commit the contracting parties to promoting responsible and sustainable fisheries policies based on thorough assessments of the available resources. In this respect, I therefore agree that the current Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Greenland is consistent with the aims of the common fisheries policy and with the principle of sustainable fisheries and that it has been of great mutual benefit to both parties."@en1
