"I quite agree with you, Mr Cofferati. As regards energy policy, I am working very closely with Commissioner Oettinger, because we realise that you cannot have a decent industrial policy without a decent energy policy. We support the idea of a single market in energy, which we realise should cut costs. You and I are both Italian and we both know that energy prices in Italy are 200 % higher than in China, which gives a stark demonstration of how difficult it is to compete outside the EU. It is difficult enough to compete inside the EU, let alone outside it.
It is therefore fundamentally important that we have a decent energy policy, just as it is to have a decent infrastructure policy. We are working on this but we need the support of the European Parliament because the two EU institutions together can certainly give impetus to meeting the targets on which we believe the success of a good growth policy depends."@en1
