I do believe, and have done for some time, that it is very important to defend the system of production of goods and services in this part of the world. It is part of our history and identity. We obviously need to think about a modern production structure and the selective reindustrialisation of a few industries, since there are some that we clearly cannot go back to. However, if we are to revive industrial activity, it is really important for work to be done on infrastructure, which in some Member States is particularly lacking. I am thinking here of bigger infrastructure – roads, airports and railways – but I also mean systems for the production and use of energy, which for many modern industries counts for so much. I would also like to see a direct commitment to knowledge, because this is where innovation comes from, from how much we invest in knowledge, research and innovation. I think these are the most important areas and I would like to know your thoughts on this."@en1
