"Mr President, Commissioner Reding, ladies and gentlemen, I hereby express a cry for help from Hungarian citizens, who are in a state of complete insecurity. In three opinions now, the European Parliament has issued a warning to the Hungarian Government, which will not even in the future be capable of respecting fundamental human and social rights. Just one year ago, the Hungarian Government announced a review of entitlements to disability pensions. I would like to draw Ms Reding’s attention to the fact that they have turned support for those who were previously in receipt of disability or incapacity pensions or regular social allowances into grants that may be reduced or stopped. Yet again, therefore, the Hungarian Government has retroactively withdrawn entitlements from a group of Hungarian citizens who had acquired a right.
The Government previously praised its single-party Constitution, saying that it guaranteed the rights of disabled people. In the light of the current decision, this is not only a scandalously cynical attitude but also a crude violation of the fundamental principles of social Europe."@en1
