"Mr President, it is clear that euroscepticism in the United Kingdom is growing, with 65 % of the country’s population seeing the future of Europe in black hues. Yet neither this nor any other attitude can be an excuse for the harsh and unjustified attacks on Bulgarian and Romanian citizens by the UK MEP Mr Bloom. His article, in which he talks of the future threat of crimes committed by Bulgarians and Romanians, is disturbing. The mildest way to describe it is that it goes beyond good manners, as the claims he makes are obviously indefensible and discriminatory. Moreover, it calls for violation of European Union treaties, that is, for non-compliance with the rules of its existence. It is unacceptable and outrageous for me personally and for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the opposition party in Bulgaria, which I represent, for xenophobia and mutual hatred to be stirred up at the difficult time of a general economic crisis."@en1
