". − I voted in favour of this report because it is a step forward in monitoring, assessing and raising awareness of the activity of the European Ombudsman. This is extremely necessary given that in the years since the Ombudsman was set up, the gap between the citizens and the institutions has certainly narrowed. It is vital for the EU to ensure that its citizens exercise their rights fully and to ensure that the quality of the EC administration is improving. Through the application of these two conditions, we will gradually develop a culture of service that, crucially, changes the way in which public services are provided while fully guaranteeing citizens’ rights and interests. The Ombudsman helps to identify citizens’ rights as regards the activities of the institutions, disseminating information on problem-solving mechanisms for citizens. I think that all of us, as citizens and participants in Europe are directly affected by the workings of this institution. Therefore, I would like to congratulate the rapporteur on her excellent work. I voted in favour of this report and that is a reflection of my support for the activities of the European Ombudsman."@en1
