"Mr President, irrespective of their country and religion, the right to education must be guaranteed for all children and gender discrimination must be condemned. The Taliban’s actions in Pakistan threaten the country’s internal security and future development. In 2012 alone, the Taliban conflict led to the destruction of 250 schools and damage to another 750. It is worrying that the authorities failed to provide better protection for these schools.
It is also worrying that there are repeated attacks on young girls wishing to attend school. The attackers invoke religious reasons but there is no religion that prohibits women from exercising their right to education. The Pakistani authorities must prevent future attacks and guarantee equal access to education for both men and women."@en1
