"Mr President, like my colleagues, I, too, strongly condemn the extremist attack on Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old girl who became the symbol for girls’ and women’s rights in Pakistan. We call on the Pakistani Government to ensure her safety and that of all other human rights activists.
Sadly, this barbarian attack shows that extremists will stop at nothing, including shooting children, to impose their radical views. Malala was unfairly punished for having dared to publish in her blog details of the traumatic experiences under the Taliban regime, which has destroyed hundreds of schools, especially girls’ schools. Our resolution urges the Pakistani authorities to combat discrimination against girls and women, to respect the constitutional right of equal access to education for girls and boys, and to guarantee the safety of girls in schools. The European Union must be more actively involved in combating the Taliban threat."@en1
