"Madam President, firstly, I wish to congratulate President Saakashvili on his sensible attitude as he did not hesitate to recognise the victory of the Georgian Dream coalition. Certainly, the world now hopes that the dream does not turn into a nightmare. There are worries, some of them expressed here, that the country, which has for so long lived in the shadow and under the threat of Russia, now has a billionaire President who made his fortune there. We must not be naive, as one of my colleagues said. As Mrs Lunacek and Mr Tarand pointed out, the main priorities on Georgia’s political agenda are tackling political corruption and clarifying the status and financing of the political parties. Finally, I welcome the Prime Minister’s plan to visit Brussels, which is a sign of continued cooperation with the Union."@en1
