". Madam President, I think that this is an interesting question. Perhaps my fellow Member should find out what has actually happened in Georgia and what the situation is in the Caucasus, and then he might realise that the right to self-determination has been trampled underfoot there. There were three autonomous territories in Georgia, each with its own government. One of them was ousted by the harsh intervention of armed forces and the other two only really avoided this fate thanks to the intervention of the Russians. I think that it makes no difference whether it is the Russians or somebody else. It is rather a matter of whether the people in Abkhazia and South Ossetia are entitled to live there, because it is really a matter of life and death. I should like to recommend that you go and have a look and talk to the local people on both sides of the border. It is very interesting; it is not like in Poland, it is very different."@en1
