"Madam President, Russia’s entry to the World Trade Organisation is a good opportunity for it to boost its relationship with the European Union. The WTO offers the best framework for the development of trade between the two parties.
At the same time, Russia must endeavour to integrate fully into the WTO and to comply more with the organisation’s rules. I am particularly concerned about Russia’s decision to ban imports of some live animals from the European Union. This measure was not taken on the basis of detailed analysis and breaches WTO rules. In addition, I note that there are still barriers for European companies when it comes to the award of public procurement contracts.
Russia must be more open in its trade relationship with the Union, as the consolidation of trade within the WTO is to the advantage of both parties."@en1
