I think that when harmonising EU citizens’ rights concerning all modes of transport, it is necessary to pay particular attention to people with disabilities or reduced mobility, and their need for accessibility. The report includes a number of measures intended to help these people, notably when special assistance is needed; that is a considerable improvement on the present situation. In future, we will need to concentrate our efforts in each of the EU countries, to find solutions to make the infrastructure accessible and to harmonise and adapt the common standards to the architectural barriers in each Member State. In this way, the safety and security of people with disabilities or reduced mobility will not be affected by architectural obstacles and they will be able to play an active role in society."@en1
