"I believe that Europe can successfully meet the challenges of the crisis through its budgetary policies. With the right selection of priorities, starting with growth and innovation for the rural areas of Europe, it can send out a strong message of change. The economic power of those working within the production chain needs to be strengthened through positive budgetary action at the level of the European institutions in the first instance, rather than at local level. Negotiations with the Council will lead to a correct application of European programmes, maintaining a strong common agricultural policy through a stable budget for agriculture. Reforms in the sector can provide an effective reference framework for strengthening the rest of the economy. Growth, which is at the centre of Parliament’s agenda, will be pursued through a series of funding measures aimed at attaining long-term objectives, starting with enhancing the competitiveness of European agricultural enterprises in the global context. I voted in favour of the proposal."@en1
