I believe that a new EU VAT own resource might bring about an important improvement to the current system since it has serious potential to develop into a stable and reliable genuine own resource for the Union’s budget. The VAT own resource moves the largest share of calculations currently done by Member States to the European Commission, which should substantially decrease the overall level of national contributions by Member States.
