It means a gradual stepping up of the volumes of bananas imported into the European market. This will take place gradually, in order to protect the particularly vulnerable producers in the EU, who need to adapt to greater competition. The protection clauses are reciprocal; in other words, Peru and Colombia are introducing equivalent clauses into their own legislation and in line with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules. We support the report’s focus on labour rights and human rights and the monitoring of the regulation, and emphasise that how we will vote on the actual free trade agreement has not been decided (cf. resolution)."@en1
