The objective is to create a European sector for venture capital investment in small and medium-sized enterprises. There is no doubt that European venture capital funds could play an important role by improving SME access to sources of finance. There is the major risk, however, that these funds will be used for purposes other than those that are intended. We should therefore make sure that any possible loopholes of this kind have been eliminated. For this reason, I abstained from voting."@en1
