"I voted in favour of this document because the Atlantic area has a number of defining characteristics and therefore problems go beyond national borders and require political answers for the whole of the Atlantic seaboard. It is proposed that the Atlantic strategy should take the form of a macro-regional strategy in order to promote synergies among the various instruments and levels of action involved in spatial planning policies. The macro-regional approach will also allow other actors on the ground (private sector, regional and local public authorities, civil society organisations) to be involved in defining and implementing the strategy’s objectives. The report calls for the strategy to be built around two themes – maritime and terrestrial spatial planning and promotion of the land/sea interface, as well as stimulation of the economic fabric of the Atlantic regions through an industrial policy adapted to their specific characteristics."@en1
