"On 21 November 2011, the Commission published a communication entitled
in response to requests from the Council and Parliament. Firstly, as an MEP from a country facing the Atlantic, where much of its history has played out and some of its economic activity takes place, I would like to congratulate the rapporteur, Alain Cadec, for his work. The Atlantic area is a region with huge potential, where the most diverse activities take place: tourism, fishing, renewable energy, transport, etc. As a marine environment, it is obviously fragile and needs to be protected; as an outlying area, it requires special attention; and, as the western approach to the EU, it has a strategic position. I therefore welcome the drafting of this Atlantic strategy, with a macro-regional approach, that brings together different synergies and will boost socio-economic development across the region. I voted for this report because I agree with the themes on which the strategy has been built: maritime and terrestrial spatial planning and promotion of the land/sea interface; and stimulation of the economic fabric of the Atlantic regions through an industrial policy adapted to their specific characteristics."@en1
