"The smart regulation agenda constitutes an attempt to consolidate efforts in terms of better law making, the simplification of EU law and a reduction in administrative and regulatory burdens. The agenda offers EU bodies a new opportunity to implement good governance, based on evidence-based policy making in which impact assessments and
controls play an essential role, on a comprehensive basis. One of the things that is needed is for the interinstitutional agreement on better law making from 2003 to be updated to the current legislative environment created by the Treaty of Lisbon. In principle, I welcome the fact that subsidiarity checks are to be reviewed. However, in my view, this report gives far too little time to the way in which the EU attempts to wipe out national competences through the back door. I took these factors into consideration when voting."@en1
