Regulations in this area are insufficient and the citizens have already paid enough for the excessive costs of rescuing institutions from bankruptcy by turning private debt into public debt. Two years later, the Council finally calls for the establishment of a banking union. I believe the European Union is paying today the high price of overdue decisions and insufficiently transparent procedures. In a European Union where anti-European feelings are on the rise and citizens want concrete solutions, I hope we will eventually learn our lesson and live up to the expectations of the people we represent."@en1
