"Having carefully analysed the reform of the common fisheries policy in view of its strategic significance in terms of providing for the people, I voted in favour of this resolution, fully aware of its consequences. It deserves support because of its provisions regarding sustainable fishing, combating unethical fishing (a number of fish stocks are still overfished), and especially because it takes account of biological, ecological, commercial and social issues. I am convinced that a well supervised fisheries and aquaculture sector will make a major contribution to meeting the needs of the people of Europe."@en1
