"I congratulate Ms Jiménez-Becerril Barrio on her work. With the adoption of this report, and having regard to the Commission proposal to Parliament and the Council () and the opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee of 7 December 2011, Parliament can ensure that any victim of crime will enjoy the same rights and an assessment of his or her specific needs anywhere in the EU. The most positive aspect of the report, however, is that from now on victims of crimes such as robbery, theft, assault, rape, harassment, hate crime, terrorist attacks or people trafficking will no longer encounter any problems caused by cultural, language or legal differences, and above all will be assisted and supported by free and confidential support services (such as counselling) from the time they are affected by the crime, regardless of where the crime occurs."@en1
