"Mr President, this report will ensure that citizens who become victims of crime when travelling in another EU country are given the help there that is needed. It gives victims of crime access to information as well as practical and emotional support. In the past, foreign victims have faced obstacles in obtaining fair compensation or they have been left without proper help and protection.
These minimum standards will make it easier for victims to receive help and, more importantly, access to justice. Basic procedural minimums are a more effective way of securing victims’ rights than a set of rigid regulations. This is a well-balanced approach to dealing with a problem which affects so many people in all Member States."@en1
