lpv:translated text	"As the financial, economic and social crisis in the European Union continues, it is necessary to find the political will to take decisions that are unpopular and difficult but essential for the survival of the EU. The establishment of a European banking union was mentioned today, which in future will allow this sector to be monitored more effectively. I welcome this decision but it is regrettable that there has hitherto been a lack of resolve to take action, which, if it had been taken in time, would have enabled the Union and its Member states to combat the crisis more successfully. I am talking about the establishment of a European credit rating agency, which would have enabled us to evaluate the Member States’ economies more fairly and objectively. I would also like to remind you about the call for a gas purchasing group to be established at EU level which would ensure fair and competitive gas prices for all Member States which in turn would increase the competitiveness of our industry and reduce consumers’ bills. For a long time we have been convinced that the crisis is coming to an end and that in order to exit it as soon as possible we need to take the toughest austerity measures. Now we can see that such austerity measures have reduced consumption and budget revenue collection, have significantly increased unemployment and have halted economic growth in the Member States in the long term. The majority of economists recognise that tough austerity measures have not provided the anticipated benefits but simply further hampered the EU’s economic and social recovery."@en1
