"Mr President, I was not planning on speaking but I would like to thank the rapporteurs and congratulate them on a piece of work that shines as a beacon in a very troubled Europe. Areas of protection for victims of crimes are, without doubt in my mind, among the main contributions we can make working in this Parliament, and we should be working in this area.
As more of our citizens move across Europe for social, recreational or work reasons, it is important that they do so safely, so I was particularly pleased that this initiative was taken up. I know how much work the rapporteur herself has put in and I congratulate her on her perseverance. ‘Well done’ needs to be said on occasions. I have criticised this Parliament, and this is one of those occasions when I have come out to say ‘well done’ to the rapporteurs."@en1
