"Mr President, I would like to thank the rapporteurs, the Council, the Commission and all Members of Parliament and their teams for their sensitivity and the effort they have made to improve care for victims of crime across the EU.
I would also like to thank the victims’ associations for their support, particularly those linked to terrorism, which have helped me to do a better job by making contributions such as the ‘one-stop shop’ system and the definition of violence of persecution.
Thanks to this directive, victims across Europe will have greater guarantees that they will be able to take part in legal proceedings without bearing the financial costs, and to overcome language barriers and problems relating to disabilities.
There will be more and better training for the people caring for them, and particular care will be provided to victims with special needs, such as victims of gender-based violence, children and victims of organised crime and terrorism.
With this measure, Europe is discrediting violence with more than just words, and turning that rejection into active solidarity. On this anniversary of 11 September, Europe is pledging its commitment to humanity and preventing any desire for revenge by means of justice, recognition and compensation."@en1
