"Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, we must welcome the final result achieved for this text, which aims to ensure that greater consideration is given to the vulnerability of victims, victims who feel, quite rightly, that too often they do not receive sufficient respect and sometimes receive less support than the perpetrators of the crimes themselves. I have one small reservation, however, because we would all have liked to have gone even further by extending the list of vulnerable victims, but the Council did not agree to this, for financial reasons, which is a complicated topic in this time of economic crisis. The principle of an individual interview for each victim remains, and this should prevent any risk of discrimination in victims’ access to the different services. This is a major step forward: it will allow us to better define the rights and needs of victims across Europe and to respond in the most appropriate fashion, taking into account the specific needs of each person and, in particular, women who are the victims of violence. We welcome these advances, just as we welcome the work of the two co-rapporteurs on this issue."@en1
