"Unfortunately, lifelong learning is still not a reality for all European citizens and the European education system has a number of gaping holes: insufficient language knowledge, for example, continues to be an enormous obstacle to mobility for the purposes of learning.
It also needs to be highlighted that at times of crisis, many Member States are tempted to cut their education and training budget, notwithstanding the fact that the economic costs of a moribund education system are significantly higher than the costs of the financial crisis. Accordingly, I have voted to support Ms Honeyball’s report, which aims to highlight how cooperation in education and training – with effective joint effort – can support attaining the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy."@en1
