"I voted in favour of the report by Ms Honeyball on education, training and Europe 2020 for a number of reasons. Not only does this report encourage programmes that will help accomplish the Europe 2020 strategy, but many of the provisions also target issues that have arisen from the current economic crisis. The focus on lifelong learning concentrates on developing a workforce that continues to accrue skills even after formal schooling has ended. The report also draws attention to the current status of youth unemployment in the EU. It is necessary to combat this growing problem by creating a more efficient school system and encouraging meaningful vocational education and training. Additionally, it is important to establish a system of early childhood education and care as this is the foundation for a student’s future success in the labour market and reduces educational costs in the long term."@en1
