"I fully support the own-initiative report by Mary Honeyball because I believe that today, we have to propose concrete actions that are proportional to the gravity of the youth unemployment that is rife in many Member States and that puts young people at the risk of social exclusion and unprecedented poverty. First of all, we need to improve skills and knowledge to limit this phenomenon. We also need to make additional efforts to inform young people about the training available to them, especially the opportunities to train abroad. That is not all, however, because we know, too, that many young people are overqualified and still struggle to find work. Finally, another problem is the situation of young people who do not have enough training and who leave school early. Education is an investment – that must be strongly emphasised – and the Member States should see access to lifelong learning as essential, in spite of certain budgetary ‘consolidation processes’."@en1
