"More than four-fifths of women in the EU labour market find work in the service sector and, quite surprisingly – mostly due to widespread stereotypes concerning what is considered to be a feminine job, or an occupation suitable for women – more than half of them find an occupation within less than 8% of all available professions. Similarly to the whole of the labour market, most of them face a gender pay gap, difficulties in reconciling work with family life, and the glass ceiling blocking their advancement. Unfortunately, precarious work is a persistent feature of the European Union’s labour market and women represent a great proportion of undeclared workers who are mainly engaged in domestic work and care. The European Commission and the Member States need to develop comprehensive and effective strategies in order to combat precarious employment as well as to support the development of the formal domestic and care services sector."@en1
