"Capitalism is showing itself to be incapable of ensuring the most basic needs of millions of human beings across the world. The poor are worst affected, including women. We believe that sustainable development based on a sustainable relationship between humans and nature, as advocated here, is impossible without breaking away; that is, calling into question the capitalist system, which exploits nature as a source of profit. We agree with the rapporteur’s statement regarding the need to change to an economic system in which the pace of natural resource extraction allows for recovery and new production. We also agree with the rapporteur that measures are needed to promote equality between men and women, to enhance the quality and quantity of local public transport networks, to create child care infrastructure and retirement homes, and to guarantee access to decent social services, education and housing. We think that the Member States should create political, economic and social conditions enabling women’s participation on an equal footing with men in all spheres of life, including the so-called ‘green economy’, but we do not support measures such as introducing quotas."@en1
