lpv:translated text	"The Internal Market Information System (IMI), in use since 2008 as a free service to Member States with a view to improving the exchange of information within the internal market, has proven its value as a rapid and secure means for cross-border information exchange and administrative cooperation Nevertheless, the IMI system still operates on the basis of a Commission decision and a Commission recommendation and, as a result, lacks a single legal instrument. I voted in favour of the proposal because I believe that this is a major obstacle to future expansion and development of the IMI system, that a smooth cross-border exchange of information between different authorities in the Member States is essential in our efforts to complete the single market, and because I hope to see future expansion of IMI to other sectors of EU law."@en1
